Strathcona House

Strathcona House

Vancouver, BC

Situated in one of Vancouver's oldest neighbourhoods, this 3,000 sf single-family was commissioned for a family with two children who wanted to see their existing three-storey dwelling updated with a minimalist design.

More information

In order to capitalize on views, the inverted layout sees the kitchen and living spaces located on the upper floor and bedrooms on the main floor. Dining and kitchen are combined into one large, open kitchen that integrates with a covered patio for outdoor cooking.

All floors are connected vertically with a unique staircase playing on lightly structured steps and a glass partition, allowing natural light to flow. While the upper floor provides a stage for active and connected family life, the ground floor anchors the home with bedrooms, a working studio and a guest room.
